Placement of a Bathroom or Toilet in the Bedroom: Pros and Cons

The question of whether to have a bathroom or toilet directly in the bedroom divides opinions. For some, it seems like the ideal option, while others consider it somewhat peculiar. Let’s consider all the pros and cons of such an approach!

Often, this layout is used in hotels and hostels, where each room is equipped with its own bathroom, providing comfort and convenience for guests. This can also serve as inspiration for creating unique room designs in a home setting.

In the USA, it is not uncommon for a bathroom or toilet to adjoin the bedroom, making such accommodation more sought after in the market. In Europe, there is even a preference for each bedroom to have its own bathroom and wardrobe. However, in Ukraine, such layouts are often limited by insufficient space.

Now, suppose you have the opportunity to add a bathroom next to the bedroom. Is it worth doing? What should be considered? Let’s discuss all the pros and cons of this decision.

Several important points need to be taken into account:

1. If there is the possibility of having multiple bathrooms or baths, then placing one of them next to the bedroom can be a convenient solution. However, if there are no other bathrooms, this may be inconvenient, as the bathroom is a communal area.

2. Options with open access to the bathroom or toilet from the bedroom, without walls or partitions, are not always successful. Such solutions require special waterproofing and may not be suitable for everyone in terms of comfort and privacy.

The ideal option is to place the bedroom and bathroom next to each other, while they should be completely isolated. In this case, the bathroom or toilet should have a separate entrance from the bedroom, which eliminates many of the drawbacks of open layouts.

Possible drawbacks and ways to address them:

1. Odors and noises. To solve this problem, it is necessary to install quality ventilation and soundproofing.

2. Increased humidity. Quality ventilation with low noise levels can help with this issue.

3. The need for legalization of remodeling. Before making such changes, it is necessary to clarify the requirements for remodeling and obtain the appropriate permission.

Advantages of placing a bathroom next to the bedroom:

1. Convenience of use, as you can take a shower and immediately go to bed.

2. Privacy, as only you can access your bathroom.

3. The ability to provide additional bathrooms for children, which can be convenient for young children.

It is also important to properly distribute the space and create a comfortable atmosphere in both the bedroom and the bathroom.
